As you probably know, I have food allergies. And that for me, it’s hard to cope with those allergies sometimes.
Okay, not sometimes. ALL THE TIME. I think it’s just the fact that I can’t have something I want and the feeling of no control really stresses me out. I’m a bit of a control freak, so food allergies really throw off my mojo.
To compensate with that bad mojo in the past, I’ve said screw it, and gone back to the foods that hurt my body. Because I don’t have life threatening allergies, I can do this. Although the after effects always feel like a really bad hangover mixed with minor food poisoning. So like, not life threatening, but mentally close to that. Therefore, allergy-friendly baking has been the best option to stay clean and not slip back into the bad habits of eating what I’m allergic too. Also, I’ve reached a small milestone in my life recently. It has been exactly 4 months and 6 days since I have eaten any of my food allergies.
I realise that it’s a strange milestone, but if you know me personally, then you should know how big of an accomplishment this is. And how I like to celebrate such milestones in my life with lovely allergy-friendly treats.
Which leads me to these glorious sweet rolls. And not just regular sweet rolls. Orange sweet rolls.
Would you like to know what’s so great about these sweet rolls? Aside from the warm, flaky, pull-apart dough drizzled in a sugary orange glaze?
They’re made from a can of crescent rolls, and were done in 30 minutes flat.
At least, that’s what the video told me. I might have stretched that time by taking snaps after each step and shooing away my cats from nibbling on the dough. You’re welcome, by the way; no one wants to eat cat hair for breakfast.
I’ve always loved sweet rolls. They’re hold a special place in my heart.
I remember waking up on Saturday mornings with the smell of breakfast wafting to my nostrils. I would stumble downstairs in my princess pajamas, groggy yet eager to see what was causing the most wonderful smells that were drifting from the kitchen. Beautiful sights awaited me.
Sizzling bacon, steaming eggs, fresh picked fruit, and a huge platter of orange sweet rolls.
There were other traditional Saturday morning breakfasts, but these were always my favourite.
The memories revolving around food are the ones I cherish the most. Because it means that I was with people I care about, enjoying something together during a happy moment. Some of those happy moments are what I hold dearest in my heart.
